Drone and ground vehicle for research towards Cooperative Robotic localisation, control and missions – Bogazici University
Robot with equipment in orchard – Wageningen University & Research

Wageningen University & Research is working on tree trunk detection that is applicable to both vineyards and orchards.

A robotic platform equipped with an RTK-GPS module, an IMU and a 3D depth camera drives along the rows of plants. An algorith is used to detet the tree trunks. the 3D tracking technology tracks them over time.

One the trees are detected and tracked in 3D, they can be added to the UTOPIA smart mapping and management system that corrects for measurements over time. Resulting in a tree localization error as small as 11 cm.
